Roses On The Threshold (2000) – Jake Berry – On his second solo CD Berry began to expand his sonic palate with alternate tunings and unconventional chord progressions. Though there are a number of songs here that fall easily within the area of folk singer-songwriter, Berry’s poetry begins to integrate with his lyrics on Roses and his life long love of jazz becomes an influence as well. The songs “Standing In The Doorway,” “Old Man Crow” and “After The Storm” in particular display his movement toward more open song forms.
